Japan to provide USD 14 mln aid for refugees in Mideast
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TOKYO, April 24 (KUNA) -- Japan said Tuesday it will extend USD 14 million in emergency grant aid for Syrian and Palestinian refugees in Syria, Jordan and Lebanon who are living under severe humanitarian situation caused by the Syrian crisis.
The aid is to provide humanitarian assistance in the areas of health, sanitation, medical service, food and basic needs, through six international organizations including the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), the Foreign Ministry said in a press release.
Of the amount, USD 3.7 million will be spent in Syria, according to the ministry.
"In areas affected by conflict such as Eastern Ghouta and other part of Syria, living conditions of about 50,000 Palestine refugees will be improved through the provision of educational service, food and non-food necessities, etc., and health program for approximately 430,000 internally displaced persons will contribute to the improvement of their health condition," it explained.
Some USD 4 million will be used for Jordan and USD 6.3 million for Lebanon, respectively. (end) mk.sd
