Qatar young guns eye good show at Amman meet

Doha: Qatar youth athletics team is targeting an impressive performance at the 8th Arab Youth Athletics Championships which will kick off tomorrow in Amman.

The event which is featuring top athletes of the region will conclude on Sunday.

The Qatari team in the tournament is represented by the players; Saud Abdulaziz Al Humaidi in the 110m hurdles and 200m race, Jaber Hilal in the 100m and 200m races, Abdulrahman Al Khater in the 100m and 200m races, Muhanad Khamis 3,000m steeplechase and 1,500m, Ahmed Saeed Al Haj in the discus throw, Marzouq Saeed Al Haj in the shot put, Muaaz Muhammad Ibrahim in the discus throw and the shot put, and Rashid Al Suwaidi in the long jump competition.

Qatar Athletics Federation's (QAF) Member, QAF Executive Director and Head of Qatar youth athletics team mission in Jordan Khalifa Abdul Malik said that the Arab competition in an opportunity for Qatari youth champions to prove themselves in competitions that are expected to be strong and at a promising level.

He added that the championship is also an opportunity for Qatari players to compete at a hard level in order to register the qualification numbers for the 2018 World Athletics Championships in Finland.

Abdul Malik pointed out that Muaaz Ibrahim and Muhanad Khamis achieved the figures qualifying for the 2018 World Athletics Championships in Finland.

He expressed hope that the remaining athletes will achieve the same achievement by qualifying for the World Athletics Championships.

He said that the participation of the Qatar youth athletics team with a limited number of players in the tournament aims to achieve good results that reflect the technical and skill development of the champions.
