(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: The Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zafar Iqbal Jhagra has announced to withdraw tax on food items in tribal areas across Federally Administered Tribal Agencies (FATA).

Speaking at a conference of political agents at Governor house Peshawar, Zafar said that the decision was taken with the aim to provide relief to the tribal people as they have gone through a tough time.

"The poor tribal people have suffered a lot in the past and this is the time of provision of relief to them".

Zafar also instructed the political administrators to call off tax on development work, adding that the personal matters of tribesmen will also be settled through jirga system.

Meanwhile, After a decade-long effort for restoration of peace in militancy hit Malakand division, the Swat check posts were handed over to the civilians, confirmed the Commissioner Malakand Zaheerul Islam at a press conference.

However one day earlier, the Pakistan Army handed over administrative power to the civil authorities and termed it as an important day in the history of FATA. Last night, the Chief of Army Staff General Bajwa also linked FATA stability to its mainstreaming.

It is also pertinent to mention that Pashtun movement erupted in the country mobilizing hundreds of thousands of people across the country demanding basic human rights, removal of Army check posts where ordinary people are humiliated on daily basis and clearing of landmines planted in tribal areas.
