Ghani promises to ban rupee in public offices


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has promised to ban the use of Pakistani currency in government offices, asking the countrymen to do businesses in the local currency.

The president made these remarks while addressing a gathering in southeastern Khost province yesterday the day two of his visit here.

The gathering in Khost City was attended by representatives of the youth, civil society and journalists, said a statement from the Presidential Palace.

It said participants of the meeting asked the President to provide more employment opportunities to women€™s in public sector offices, create jobs for the youth, build Bacha Khan International University and provide some other facilities.

After hearing their demands and suggestions, President Ghani said their demands were not big ones and were the right of the youth.

€œBesides implementing your demands, I have bigger programs for Khost,€ announced the president. He added people of Khost deserved more things as they represented a great culture.

The number of women employees should increase in Khost government offices and at least four departments should be led by them through a transparent process, he said.

Ghani said one million US dollars had been allocated for construction of the Tribal High School.

Opening office for the Independent Human Rights Commission and building the Bacha Khan International University were demands of the nation and would be made available, he said.

The president assured the youth that departmental heads having served more than four years on the positions would be replaced.

The president said he would restrict the use of Pakistani rupee in government offices and people too should do the same.
