Israel fails to ban BDS activist after misspelling his name

(MENAFN) The officials' mistake of spelling his name incorrectly resulted on failure in the efforts by the Israeli government to prevent Lord Mayor Michael Mac Donncha from entering the country.

The Lord Mayor travelled to Palestine yesterday to attend a conference on the future of Jerusalem and to highlight the plight of the Palestinian people.

Last night, a number of reports suggested that the Sinn Fein representative would be denied access to Israel over his ties with the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign and long-standing activism in the BDS movement.

However, the Lord Mayor later confirmed on Twitter that he was in a hotel in Ramallah preparing for the conference.

On Monday, Dublin City Council voted to support a boycott and economic sanctions against Israel over their response to recent Palestinian protests, which took the lives of 32 peaceful protesters.
