Iraqi PM, Trump highlight weight of Iraq elections success


(MENAFN) President Trump has held a phone conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, focusing on the significance of the approaching elections to end with success.

The talks have carried out with Iraq preparing for its parliamentary elections that is set for May 12, making it the first election to be held after the IS was defeated.

Both the president and prime minister also "hailed the victories over the terrorist gangs of Daesh (IS group)", Abadi's office declared in a statement.

The statement also confirmed the leaders to have hailed "the determination of the heroic Iraqi forces and the support of the U.S.-led coalition forces."
