Telegram to be banned in Russia over encryption keys refusal

(MENAFN) Russia is anticipated to impose a ban on Telegram app following its dismissal of a request to give away encryption keys.

The ban on the messaging app will not be imposed before a court ruling is issued, as confirmed Roskomnadzor's chief executive Alexander Zharov while speaking to news agency Tass.

The chief executive declared "now, we have filed a lawsuit and we'll wait for the court's verdict. That's all for the moment."

He continued "there should be a string of steps, and we act consistently. If you read law you will see that this is not our decision, we execute the decision of another body."
