(MENAFN) Following Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan request of composing an anthem for the ongoing military incursion into the northwest Syrian area of Afrin, celebrities met the request and produced a track to the president's liking.

The lyrics of the ""The Turkey anthem"" are written by Ibrahim Altıntas while the anthem's music is produced by musician Mustafa Ceceli.

The Turkish president had previously stated that he wished to have Turkish soliders "walking to a new anthem, just as they [once] did with the anthems of the janissary band," a reference to the Ottoman military marching band, held to the oldest of its kind in the world.

The celebrities involved in the project released a statement where they expressed despite it being impossible to pay Turkish soldiers back for their ""sacrifices,"" they stand by their side and wish to gift the new anthem to them and the ""sincere people of Turkey.""

This followed the invasion of Turkey-backed FSA militia of Afrin town on Mar. 18, raising their and Turkish flags in the town center and declaring full control after an eight-week campaign to drive out Kurdish YPG fighters.
