Libya: armed group kidnap Aziziya city mayor

(MENAFN) Libyan mayor of Aziziya city was confirmed to have been abducted by an unidentified armed group around 30 km south of the Libyan capital Tripoli.

In its statement, the Social Council of Warshaffana declared "an armed group kidnapped the mayor of Aziziya municipality, Jamal al-Taif, in front of his house in the town of Sa'diya in Warshaffana area and took him to an unknown location."

The social council further revealed that the mayor has gotten a number of threatening messages on his phone ahead of the abduction.

Troops from the Libyan government have begun a military mission in 2017 against criminal groups in Warshaffana as a result of increased rates of crimes that are related to armed robbery and kidnapping.
