Greek Coast Guard rescue 17 refugees

(MENAFN) An e-mail press has revealed that Greek Coast Guard have rescued 17 refugees from a boat of Chios island in the Aegean Sea.

The Greek Coast Guard declared that the refugees, whose nationalities haven't been released, were safely taken to the island's port.

The rescue operations took place following the rise in the number of refugees travelling via the Mediterranean Sea after the EU-Turkey agreement two years ago, which aimed at stemming the refugee numbers coming to Europe.

The Greek Ministry of Information confirmed that Greece reached 8,394 arrivals since the beginning of 2018.
