Qatar secure second win in Davis Cup

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar have secured their second straight win in the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group III, which takes place in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi with the participation of nine teams until April 9.
The Qatari team beat Jordan 3-0 in the three matches between the two sides, a day after beating Syria with the same scoreline.
Qatar was scheduled to take on Kuwait later yesterday in a tie that will largely decide the winners of Pool B that also includes Saudi Arabia.
Pool A comprises Vietnam, Malaysia, Pacific Oceania and Cambodia.
Ibrahim al-Khulaifi, deputy chairman of the national teams committee and head of the mission, said the performance of players is improving from one game to another, noting that the main target is to be among the teams competing in Group II.
Al-Khulaifi added that each match is a championship in one way as the gap between the different teams has become much smaller and a new generation of young players is taking the stage.
He said that the match against Kuwait will be very difficult but expressed confidence in the capacities and abilities of the national team players to perform well and carry on in the tournament.
