Jordan- 3 agreements signed to reduce electricity bill

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, April 4 (Petra)- The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources signed on Wednesday three agreements to implement the 2nd phase of the Royal Initiative to heat 35 schools, distribute energy-saving lamps to 150 thousand subscribers and implement a program to award training certificates of an "energy engineer" at a total cost amounting to JD1.740 million.

In a press statement after signing the agreements, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Kharabsheh, said this initiative is significant to promote the energy sector in the Kingdom and achieve objectives of the national strategy in boosting local energy sources, conserving the environment and reducing the cost of the oil bill.

The minister, who heads the Board of Directors of the Renewable Energy Fund, signed an agreement to distribute energy saving lamps with the director generals of Irbid Electricity Company, Ahmed Al-Thinat, Jordan Electricity Company, Marwan Bushnaq and Electricity Distribution Company, Hassan Al-Thinibat.

According to the agreement worth JD 700 thousand, the Renewable Energy Fund will provide the energy-efficient lamps, while the electricity distribution companies will ensure their distribution and installation to households to replace older ones and to ditch them in a manner unharmful to the environment, in exchange for administrative fees paid by the fund.

The minister said the agreement is crucial in supporting the ministry's efforts to reduce the energy bill on the subsidized sectors.

On the targeted beneficiaries, he said the ministry pays great attention to the household sector by reducing the monthly energy bill for "subsidized" citizens who spend less than 600 kilowatts of electricity as part of the national efforts to achieve the strategic objectives of the energy sector in reducing consumption and stimulating investment in renewable energy.

The 2nd agreement, worth JD1 million and signed by the fund the National Center for Energy Research, aims to heat 35 schools and to increase their energy efficiency.

The 3rd agreement, worth JD40 thousand and signed by the fund and the Regional Center for Energy Efficiency, eyes to train 50-100 engineers to obtain necessary energy expertise to be awarded " an energy engineer".
