Samla win Ooredoo Temba 2018 title at Aspire Zone

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Ooredoo Temba Championship, organised by Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) in partnership with Ooredoo, concluded on Saturday evening with team Samla being crowned as champions after a closely fought 9-6 victory against Al Zaeem.
The Jordanian Community team finished in third place after a hotly contested match in which they defeated last year's winners Zekreet by 12 goals to 8.
Mohamed Ibrahim of Al Zaeem was the tournament's top-scorer with 28 goals. Winners from Samla received phones as prizes from the event's sponsor, Ooredoo. Second and third-placed winners received valuable cash prizes.
Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad bin Nasser al-Thani, Chief New Business Officer at Ooredoo, Mustafa Jameel al-Qatami, Senior Director Marketing Communications & Brand at Ooredoo, Nasser Abdullah al-Hajri, Director of PR and Communications at AZF, and Mohamed al-Hamadi, Manager of the Tournament at AZF attended the closing ceremony and awarded the winners.
Commenting on the conclusion of this year's event, al-Hamadi said, 'We're very pleased both with the level of competition amongst participating teams, as well as strong attendance and engagement from local football fans. We congratulate this year's winners and wish the teams that weren't successful the best of luck for next year. We had a number of teams compete for the first time this year including Samla and the Jordanian Community teams and they've impressed everyone with their performances. The defeat of last year's champions Zekreet came as a surprise to everyone.
He added: 'Following the great success of the tournament last year, we have collaborated with Ooredoo once again to bring the completion back for a second consecutive year. And thanks to its popularity, together with Ooredoo we're looking at options for turning this competition into a regular fixture in AZF's annual sporting calendar. We hope to organise an even bigger and better tournament next year.
Al-Qatami added: 'This year's tournament saw great participation from football enthusiasts, with 16 teams taking part. Our support for this tournament stems from Ooredoo's strategy to support various sports, community and educational activities around Doha. As the saying goes healthy body, healthy mind. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone from Aspire Zone Foundation for organising the event and contributing to making it a big success. We'll certainly be taking part in future events with AZF. We're already talking about how to build on this year's success and introduce bigger and better surprises next year.
The ‘Ooredoo Temba' football tournament kicked off on March 26. Over the past few days, 16 teams have competed for glory in a number of thrilling matches. These were played on Aspire Zone's five-a-side football pitches, laid with FIFA-approved artificial turf and entirely solar powered in line with AZF's commitment to supporting the Environmental pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
This year's teams were split into four groups. The teams competing in Group A were Al Waab, Zekreet, Jordanian Community and Milan. Group B included teams Al Jawareh, Egypt, Black Star and My City. Group C included teams Samla, Almatar, QBC and APG. While Group D included teams Al Zaeem, Omani Community, Al Wajba and Kosovo.
