SSC begins trial of a terrorist cell

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, April 2 (Petra)- The State Security Court (SSC) on Monday began trying members of a terrorist cell that plotted to carry out military operations on the Jordanian soil as its plans were foiled by the General Intelligence last November.

During a public hearing presided over by the court's chief, judge Mohammed al-Afif, members of the cell denied the charges of plotting to carry out terrorist acts, promoting ideology of a terrorist group, selling arms and ammunition for use in terrorist deeds, and providing funds for the same purpose.

According to the SSC' general prosecutor indictment, the cell divided its recruited followers into three groups, the first was tasked with looking targets over, the second concerned with technical support and minor operations, and the third are the major masterminds and suicide bombers.

The targets of the cell included the Roya news channel and its staff, the French Initiatives Center, a nightclub in the Shmeisani area of Amman, the phosphate company near the Ruseifa Intelligence building, the US Embassy, a church in Amman's Marka district, and Israeli businessmen attending a garment factory.
