Oman Cricket: Assarain defeats Enhance by 14 runs


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Assarain recorded a thrilling 14-run win over Enhance CT in an Oman Cricket Premier Division T20 League match at Al Amerat ground on Saturday.

Batting first, Assarain was restricted to 142 for eight.

Shahan Akram (39 off 38) and Muhammed Nadeem (29 off 22) were the main run-getters. Enhance pacer Ahmed Fayyaz Butt bagged three for 39 while spinner Nester Dhamba claimed two for nine in four overs.

Dhamba then struck 62 off 44 but failed to lead his side to victory following lack of support from his teammates as Enhance folded up for 128 in 19.1 overs. Khurram Khan was the only other notable scorer with 23.

Fast bowler Kaleemullah claimed three for 12 while Shakeel Ahmed and Muhammed Nadeem took two wickets each for Assarain.

Following the victory, Assarain shares the top spot with Passage to India. Both the teams have collected 11 points from six games.

Brief scores: Assarain 142-8 in 20 overs (Akram 39, Nadeem 29; Fayyaz Butt 3-39, Dhamba 2-09) beat Enhance 128 all out in 19.1 overs (Dhamba 62, Khurram 23; Kaleemullah 3-12, Ahmed 2-23, Nadeem 2-29).

Salman Stores and Enhance Eagles win

Salman Stores defeated OCT Muscat by three wickets and MDC Enhance Eagles registered a five-wicket win over IT Works in their respective semifinal games to set up title showdown in the A Division T20 League.

Batting first, OCT Muscat was restricted to 113 for eight in 20 overs. Majid al Balushi was the only notable scorer with 35. Muzammil Ahmed and Asim Kamal claimed two wickets each.

Salman Stores surpassed the total in 18.2 overs as it reached 116 for seven. Imran Asghar (29) and Ghazanfar Iqbal (27) were the main contributors with the bat. Zubair al Balushi took three for 22.

In the second match, Omkar Pramod Ozardekar's three for 26 restricted IT Works to 134 for seven. Opener Umair Naeem top-scored with 60 off 52 balls. Ozardekar was ably supported by Mohammed Faisal (2-28).

Eagles scored 135 for five in 18.5 overs. Ikhtiar Kazmi (32) and Pranav Mehta's unbeaten 31 led the team's batting exploits. Ihtesham Muhammed picked three wickets in a losing cause.

Brief scores: OCT Muscat 113-8 in 20 overs (Majid al Balushi 35; Ahmed 2-17, Kamal 2-25) lost to Salman Stores 116-7 in 18.2 overs (Asghar 29, Iqbal 27; Zubair al Balushi 3-22).

IT Works 134-7 in 20 overs (Naeem 60, Waseem Akhtar 23; Ozardekar 3-26, Faisal 2-28) lost to MDC Enhance Eagles 135-5 in 18.5 overs (Kazmi 32, Mehta 31 n.o.; Muhammed 3-23).
