Oman- 27 clubs apply for national licensing system: OFA

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) All the 14 Omantel League clubs and 13 first division league clubs in Oman have applied for the national clubs licensing system, a positive step in the development of Oman football, according to Said al Balushi, the CEO of the Oman Football Association (OFA).

Speaking to Muscat Daily at the end of a 'successful' ordinary general meeting of the OFA on Saturday, Balushi said, 'The ordinary general meeting was successful as the board and the clubs discussed many key matters. Most importantly, the 2017 financial statement was approved by the board and the clubs after a healthy discussion.

'We informed the clubs that the OFA has managed to clear 43 per cent of its debts and the meeting okayed the 2018 budget of RO 6.8mn.'

Addressing the clubs representatives and the board, OFA chairman Sheikh Salim al Wahaibi said, 'We have no dues for 2018 following persistent efforts to clear the debts that we acquired from the previous board.'

Balushi said that all the 14 Omantel League clubs along with 13 of the first division clubs have applied for the national clubs' licensing system. 'The clubs will have to fulfil the 19 criteria set by the AsianFootball Confederation (AFC) by August this year.

'They also need to make financial agreements with players and coaches besides meeting the various criteria,' he said.

As for the clubs meeting the financial obligations to attain the licence, the OFA assured the clubs that it would request the AFC to postpone the clubs debts for a full season due to the ongoing economic situations. 'We hope our request is considered and we will also seek support from the Ministry of Sports Affairs to help the clubs,' said another top OFA official on condition of anonymity.
