President Trump signs memo to ban transgender military service

(MENAFN) A memorandum has been signed by President Trump to ban transgender people from serving in the US military.

The order was said to be based on proposals Defence Secretary Jim Mattis made so that "transgender persons who require or have undergone gender transition" are not allowed serve.

The Department of Defence (DoD) sent a report to President Trump, warning that the service of people with a record of gender dysphoria could bring "substantial risks".

The report also said that it might "undermine readiness... and impose an unreasonable burden on the military" through giving a pass from existing physical, mental and sex-based standards.
