ICRC: "half of Yemenis can't access clean water"


(MENAFN) 95% of Yemenis relies on tanks to get drinking water as more than half of them are suffering to get clean water, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

This came in a tweet the Committee has posted on its official Twitter page, on the occasion of the World Water Day, which falls on 22 March of each year.

"95% of Yemenis rely on water tanks (basins and wells) to get drinking water," the International Committee explained.

The ICRC added that "15 million Yemenis (more than half of the population) are facing difficulty getting clean water."

In 2017, the Committee highlighted that nine Yemeni cities had run out of water.

Saudi Arabia and some other countries attacked Yemen in March 2015 to re-empower the deposed president of Yemen Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi.

According to the World Health Organization"s latest tally, the cholera outbreak has killed 2,167 people since the end of April 2017 and is suspected to have infected 841,906.

Additionally, the U.N. has described the current level of hunger in Yemen as "unprecedented," emphasizing that 17 million people were food insecure in the country.
