(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Jijo Joy, a FIDE-rated international with a rating of 1961 points, led Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir (ISWK) to a top-place finish in the inaugural Muscat School Chess Champions League (MSCCL) qualifiers.

Joy produced a perfect score of nine out of nine to lead his school in the overall standings with 18 points and help it qualify into the Final Four, which will be held on April 21.

Intense battle of brains took place in the race for the top-four finish among the ten teams that comprised 40 players.

Indian School Al Ghubra (ISG) with 16 points, British School Muscat-A (11) and Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos Private School (11) finished behind ISWK to complete the Final Four line-up.

American British Academy (ABA) ended just a point behind Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos Private School to miss the fourth place.

The first edition of the schools event saw the teams play on a round-robin format at the French School of Muscat.

A team of qualified international arbiters - Mussalam al Wadhahi, Ruqayya al Balushi, Ahmad al Raisi, Zouhair Naciri and Ismael Karim – helped organise the qualifying team event successfully.
