Uber drivers get assaulted in Turkey

(MENAFN) International ride-sharing service Uber is facing hurdles in Turkey as regular taxi drivers launch protests and physically attack Uber drivers in the country.

Recently, tensions have been increasing between taxi drivers and Uber drivers in Istanbul as taxi drivers started a campaign against the transport company complaining that they are losing customers to Uber which avoids costly regulations and requirements for vehicles.

Uber has been operating in the country since 2014, and currently has more than 5,000 drivers.

However, a group of taxi drivers have been reported of physically attacking Uber drivers even with the customers in the vehicles.

After the incident, Uber released a statement saying: "Our priority is to stand alongside our Uber driver partners in these difficult times, providing them with the necessary legal help and support."
