Moroccan to file lawsuit against Spain, Britain


(MENAFN) Saying that they falsely accused him of belonging to an Al-Qaeda terrorist group and causing the death of 3,000 people, Moroccan citizen will file a lawsuit against Spain and Britain, MEM reported Wednesday.

After being charged with transmitting messages to an Al-Qaeda cell leader in connection with the New York attacks in 2001, Farid Hilali, 49, began proceedings to sue the two governments for EUR1.8 million in damages.

He claimed that he was tortured during interrogation by British intelligence officers following his arrest in the UAE.

Before charges were dropped in 2012, Hilali spent three years in a British prison and a year behind bars in Spain but he is now living in Barcelona with his wife.
