Pakistan- AWKUM students protest hike in admission fees

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) MARDAN: Students of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration against the university administration for hike in admission fees.

Dozens of students of Fine Arts, Pashtu and Islamiat Departments gathered outside vice chancellor's office and chanted slogans against him for increasing the fees.

The students complained that former vice chancellor Dr Ihsan Ali had reduced fee by 50 percent from Rs26000 to Rs13000 so that poor students could get admission.

They said that the new vice chancellor has withdrawn the decision and increased the fees by Rs26000, making it impossible for many poor students to pay such a huge amount.

They threatened to launch a protest drive if the hike was not withdrawn. It merits a mention here that AWKUM has been faced with financial crisis due to over-staffing.
