Turkey's Erdogan hopes Afrin to fall tonight

(MENAFN) Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated his wishes on Wednesday that Turkish servicemen would seize control over the Syrian city of Afrin as early as Wednesday evening, Sputnik reported.

"I hope Afrin will fall before tonight," he told the heads of local administrations in Ankara.

Erdogan's statement comes after on Tuesday, the Turkish General Staff reported that the Turkish military surrounded the Kurdish-held Syrian city of Afrin in the course of its Operation Olive Branch.

Ankara, since January 20th, has launched a large-scale military offensive against the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) in Afrin. The attack has so far resulted in scores of civilian casualties and displacement of thousands.
