WTO chief: US tariffs could impose 'domino effect'

(MENAFN) The possible "domino effect" that could come out of the US tariffs on steel and aluminum import has raised concerns for World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Roberto Azevedo.

"This escalation, which I say has a domino effect, is an escalation that is tough to reverse," the director-general warned.

He then reportedly stated "once you enter the path of reciprocal reprisals, you know when it begins, you know how it begins, but you don't know how or when you will be able to stop the process."

The statement has come after his meeting with Brazilian President Michel Temer in Brasilia, as they aimed to talk about the US plan to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.
