HBKU, Qatar Shell to host lecture on water treatment

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) In its second instalment of the ongoing three-part Joint Sustainability Research Seminars (JSRS) series, Hamad Bin Khalifa University's College of Science and Engineering (CSE) and Qatar Shell will focus on Integrated Onsite Industrial Water Treatment on March 14.
A lecture will be delivered by Dr Udeogu Onwusogh, the water portfolio leader at the Qatar Shell Research and Technology Centre. He has extensive expertise in water treatment and sustainable development.
The seminar will provide insight on efforts undertaken to safely extract natural resources through more sustainable means. The guests will receive an overview of the Pearl GTL effluent treatment plant that treats water using the Fischer-Tropsch process, and other alternative processes that secrete less pollution than traditional fossil fuels.
Dr Mounir Hamdi, dean of CSE, said, 'At CSE, we recognise the importance of a well-rounded education that integrates theoretical and practical components. We value our partnerships with leading institutions in the industry to provide our students with invaluable insight and opportunities in their professional lives. The Joint Research Seminar Series with Qatar Shell is a critical element of our vision to enhance the student experience by linking industry with academia, capitalising on our partner's expertise to achieve our shared goals.
The lecture will also provide guests with a unique opportunity to network with experts. In addition, they will receive an in-depth overview of the significant steps that the oil and gas leader is presently taking to minimise its carbon footprint, and build a more sustainable future.
Dr Onwusogh has worked with the Qatar Shell Research and Technology Centre to develop on existing research that seeks to find more efficient solutions in managing bio-sludge, salt, and excess water that is produced seasonally. He holds master's and PhD degrees in environmental engineering from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.
