UAE- Speed limit of new RAK ring road set at 120kmph

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The traffic and patrols department here in the emirate has set a speed limit of 120kmph on the ring road, which is yet to be opened to the public. The new road is expected to be officially opened in June this year.

However, the radar flash has been set at 141kmph, considering the 20kmph speed buffer over speed limits, according to a top official.

Col Ahmed Saeed Al Sam Al Naqbi, acting director of the traffic and patrols department, RAK Police, said: Though the new ring road of the emirate has not been opened yet, some drivers recklessly cut the net that blocks the road and drive on it.

Some other drivers have removed the middle road barriers and drove in the wrong direction, he added.

Such callous acts have ended into gruesome accidents in which some people were killed and others were badly injured.

The department could not help totally blocking the road until official inauguration, he said.

The move (speed limit) is aimed to ensure road users safety, and prevent reckless drivers from getting involved in deadly accidents.

The department has also installed 15 radars on the new road, he said. Side nets have also been installed, in collaboration with the bodies concerned, to prevent stray animals from entering the road.

A new registration station is being built on the road, he said.
