Turkey's PM: "we have capacity to produce medicines worth USD1.6bln"

(MENAFN) Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım in a speech delivered Saturday that Turkey plans for boosting production of the medicines it requires.

Turkey produced medicines worth nearly USD600 million in 2017, Yıldırım noted, adding that, "Turkey has the capacity to produce medicines worth USD1.6 billion."

By producing more medicines locally, Turkey would be able to make savings of more than USD1.5 billion dollars, Yıldırım said.

Whilst 80% of medicine purchases made in Turkey in 2017 were of locally produced medicines, only 45% of the money spend on medicines went to locally manufactured products, Yıldırım noted.

"If we want a more powerful Turkey we must widen our horizons for indigenous projects," he said.
