Sikh student dragged out of UK nightclub for wearing turban
11 Mar 2018

A Sikh student has claimed he was dragged out of Rush Late Bar in Mansfield Nottinghamshire yesterday for wearing his religious headwear.

Amrik Singh, 22, who is doing law from Nottingham Trent University, said he felt 'victimized' after the bar ordered him to take off the turban or leave the bar.

Singh was told that they had a "no headwear" policy.

Here're more details.

My pleas were ignored: Singh
Ignorance

Writing about the incident on Facebook, Singh said, "I explained to a bouncer that a turban isn't just headgear, but part of my religion and that it protected my hair, and that I was allowed to wear a turban in public."

"But my pleas were ignored, and I was dragged away from my friends before being removed from the venue," Singh said.

'Bouncer compared my turban to wearing a pair of trainers'
Wrong comparison

The final year law student said, "The worst part of it was the fact he compared my turban to wearing a pair of trainers.

Reportedly, his family were born in Britain and uphold British values.

"The fact that I was being removed because of my religious views really upset me. My ancestors have fought for the British Army previously," he added.

Bar management apologizes, suspends staff
Apology

The management, however, has apologized and said the staff involved faced suspension pending an investigation.

In a statement to the Labour councillor for Mansfield, Sonya Ward, Rush Late Bar said that they didn't have "no turban policy."

"Good morning, this is absolutely NOT our policy. We are investigating this incident and the security member in question has been suspended," Ward wrote on Twitter.
