Kuwait- API chief underlines Arab youth empowerment

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, March 10 (KUNA) -- Director General of the Arab Planning Institute (API) Dr. Bader Malallah said here Saturday it is imperative to empower Arab young people in educational, intellectual and creative domains.

This will be of paramount significance to economic and social development in Arab countries, Malallah addressed the opening session of the 7th Arab Media Forum for Youth in Cairo.

Patronized by Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmad Abul-Gheit under the rubric: "Youth and Future Media", the forum attracted Arab information ministers and media representatives and students.

Young people, who make up over 60 percent of population in Arab countries, are considered the "real pillar of future", he added.

However, Arab youth have several challenges to address, primarily low-quality education and unemployment, the API's chief lamented.

Joblessness constitutes 29 percent in the Arab region, compared with 14 percent in the world, hitting 24 percent among males and 43 percent among females, he pointed out. (end) msh.asm.mt
