Man dies after parking car in the middle of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) An Indian man was killed after a car crashed into his on the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road. The 34-year-old had stopped his car in the middle of the highway after it developed some technical problem. He did not move the vehicle to the road shoulder or even get out of it as he waited for help, the police said.

Major Omar bu Ganem, director of traffic and patrol at the Sharjah Police, said a speeding car crashed into his vehicle, instantly killing him. After the police reached the spot, his body was shifted to the Kuwaiti hospital.

The police have warned motorists against stopping their cars in the middle of the road in the event of breakdowns or minor accidents. They urged motorists to use hazard lights and move their vehicles to the road shoulders. They must then place a warning reflective triangle at least 45 metres behind the broken down vehicle.

Major bu Ghanem said there was a misconception among some drivers that they must stop the car at the place of the accident and not leave their cars until the police arrive.

This does not apply to minor incidents that occur in the middle of the road. Those involved in the accident must pull their vehicles over to the side of the road so as not to obstruct traffic, he added.
