(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Rabat- More than 1,000 cultural and artistic activities were carried out between December and January at the national level, announced the Ministry of Culture and Communication in statement on Wednesday.

The number of these artistic and cultural activities is important, according to the ministry, which indicated that in October last year, the total number in different regions of the Kingdom reached only at 878.

One hundred ninety-eight of these activities were for the benefit of children, based on figures from a report founded on data collected from all the regional directorates.

The ministry reported that 216 plays, 169 music performances, and 63 film activities were recorded, as well as more than 178 art exhibitions and 219 book activities.

According to the Ministry, the rise in the number of theater activities, establishes a competitive spirit between the different regions. It also ensures quality that meets the cultural and artistic needs of citizens.

The ministry also said that it would follow-up on these activities, through the presentation of a bimonthly report to ensure continuity throughout the year.

This report would also include the strong and weak points of culture and art in Morocco and recommend cultural and artistic activities throughout the national territory.

In 2017, the Minister of Culture and Communication's budget totaled MAD 330 million.

The minister has said that the budget will cover all initiatives related to cultural interactions, including music, theater, and support services for different activities and cultural associations.
