Britain, Saudi Arabia initialed Eurofighter Typhoon deal

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) LONDON, March 9 (KUNA) -- Britain and Saudi Arabia signed a Memorandum of Intent Friday to supply Riyadh with additional Eurofighter Typhoon jets.

British Defense Secretary Gavin Williamson, in a brief statement after signing the Memorandum of Intent with visiting Saudi Crown Prince and Defense Minister Mohammad bin Salman, said they discussed ways of boosting defense cooperation.

He said the meeting resulted in an initial agreement, whose value was not disclosed, to finalize an accord to supply Saudi Arabia with Eurofighter Typhoon jets.

This accord, he added, would strengthen security in the Middle East.

BAE Systems said in a statement the Memorandum of Intent aimed at finalizing discussions for the purchase of 48 Typhoon Aircraft.

"This is a positive step towards agreeing a contract for our valued partner. We are committed to supporting the Kingdom as it modernises the Saudi Armed Forces and develops key industrial capabilities critical to the delivery of Vision 2030," it said.

Meanwhile, Britain and Saudi Arabia signed two agreements over clean energy technology and health cooperation.

The two countries established a strategic partnership council and launched USD 90 billion worth of joint projects. (end) mrn.bs
