By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:

The normalization of the Turkey-Armenia relations is out of the question if the occupied Azerbaijani lands are not liberated, Metin Kulunk, MP from the ruling Turkish Justice and Development Party for Istanbul, told Trend March 9.

Kulunk was commenting on Armenia's annulment of the Zurich protocols with Turkey.

He added that the priority for Turkey is the liberation of the occupied Azerbaijani territories.

"By annulling the protocols, Armenia wants to exert political pressure on Turkey,' Kulunk said. 'Armenia understands that Ankara will not make any concessions to Yerevan regarding Azerbaijan. Therefore, Armenia's decision about annulment of protocols has no significance for Turkey.'

He also stressed that while voicing its intention to normalize relations with Turkey, Armenia was actively propagandizing the lie about the so-called Armenian genocide in Europe and the US.

"Turkey has repeatedly stated that it is ready to create a joint commission to investigate the events of 1915, but Armenia and the Armenian lobby continue to avoid this up now," Kulunk said.

On March 1, 2018, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan announced about the annulment of the protocols on the normalization of the Armenia-Turkey relations.

The protocols on the normalization of relations between the two countries were signed by Turkish and Armenian foreign ministers on October 10, 2009, but those protocols were not ratified.

The diplomatic relations between the two countries were severed in 1993. The break in relations, as well as, the closing of borders between Turkey and Armenia in 1993 was due to Yerevan's claims over recognition of the so-called Armenian genocide in the world and Armenia's occupation of Azerbaijani lands.
