Emir: Qatar, Bulgaria determined to develop ties

Sofia: Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria, Boyko Borissov, witnessed yesterday signing of a number of memoranda of understanding between both countries.
The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperating in the field of youth and sports, an MoU on cooperating in the energy field and an MoU between Qatar University and Sofia University.
Earlier the Emir was accorded an official reception ceremony yesterday morning at the Presidential Palace in the capital Sofia on the occasion of his state visit to Bulgaria. President of the Republic of Bulgaria led well wishers to welcome the Emir upon arrival at the Presidential Palace.
The Emir and Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria held a talks session.
At the outset of the session, Bulgaria's Prime Minister welcomed HH the Emir and the accompanying delegation, pointing that the two countries enjoy close relations, especially with the continuous communication between officials and joint projects between the two countries. He is looking forward to agreement on new projects between the two friendly countries in the near future, he said.
The Emir expressed thanks for the hospitality. He also extended congratulations on behalf of the Qatari people to the Bulgarian government and people on the occasion of the Bulgarian National Day. The Emir pointed out that the ambitions of the two countries are great and they are determined to make every effort to support and develop bilateral relations in various fields, especially investment. The Emir also extended an invitation the Bulgarian Prime Minister to visit Qatar, which he welcomed.
During the session, the two sides discussed means of enhancing the friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries to a wider level for the benefit of their peoples. The talks also dealt with a number of regional and international issues. Their Excellencies members of the official delegation, accompanying the Emir, attended the session. On the Bulgarian side the session was attended by a number of Their Excellences ministers and senior officials.
The Emir discussed with Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria means to develop bilateral relations and the prospects for enhancing the joint cooperation between the two friendly countries to cover different fields. During a bilateral meeting the Emir and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria exchanged views on various regional and international issues of mutual concern. At the outset of the meeting, the Bulgarian Prime Minister welcomed H H the Emir and the accompanying delegation, expressing pleasure at the visit, especially that Bulgaria is currently chairing the European Union. Prime Minister Borissov also appreciated this visit wishing that it will further advance the relations between the two countries to a greater horizons. For his part, H H the Emir said that the relations between the two countries are strong and historical, pointing to exchanging visits between senior officials of the two countries, and stressing at the same time that the visit will contribute to pushing relations to wider fields. H H the Emir also congratulated the Prime Minister of Bulgaria on assuming the presidency of the European Union current session.
H H the Emir and President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev, took a tour in the city of Sofia during which His Highness was briefed on the most important historical, cultural and heritage landmarks of the city.
Following the tour, during which H H the Emir received an explanation on the City's developments in various fields as well as future projects, H H the Emir and President Radev visited Bulgaria's National History Museum, where His Highness was briefed on the most important milestones in the history of Sofia, Bulgaria and the Balkans in general, and viewed various antiquities, old coins, maps and paintings exhibited in the museum.
During the tour, H H the Emir and President Radev visited Bulgarian Football Federation where they listened to a brief on the federation and had a general conversation on sports and football. H H the Emir attended a luncheon banquet hosted by President of the Republic of Bulgaria in honor of His Highness and the accompanying delegation, at the Presidential Palace on Thursday. A number of Their Excellencies Bulgarian ministers and senior officials attended the function.
