Arab League supports PA's Mideast peace plan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, March 7 (KUNA) -- Arab foreign ministers have expressed full support to the Palestinian Authority-proposed peace plan.

At the conclusion of their 149th meeting held in Cairo Wednesday, the ministers underlined the need for an international multilateral mechanism to mediate peace talks.

They called for holding an international conference for relaunching the stalled peace process They also expressed support to the measures taken by the Palestinian Authority to stand up against the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as a capital of Israel and to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The emphasized that the peace is a strategic option for Arab countries and called for a peaceful solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict based on the Arab peace initiative and the relevant UN resolutions.

On February 20, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas disclosed a peace plan in a speech at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

The plan envisaged the acceptance of the State of Palestine as a full member state at the UN, mutual recognition of statehood between Palestine and Israel on the borders of 1967. It stipulated refraining from all unilateral moves during negotiations, especially those which affect the results of the final solution, most importantly settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories in 1967, including East Jerusalem and freezing of the decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and stopping the embassy transfer to Jerusalem.

It considered the two-state solution as a foundation for peace negotiations, which means a State of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital that lives side by side with Israel in peace and security on the borders of June 4, 1967. (pick up previous) mfm.esm.ibi
