Careem to target 20,000 female captains by 2020

(MENAFN) Careem was confirmed to be targeting the employment of further female captains, aiming to reach 20,000 female drivers by 2020.

The regional ride-hailing app has already recruited female captains in Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Morocco, Egypt, Pakistan and the UAE.

CEO and co-founder Mudassir Sheikha declared "it's time for us and the entire industry to wake up. Not only is there a moral obligation to do so, but there's also a huge opportunity to grow our business around women and give them the economic opportunity to excel."

He continued "women are often the primary breadwinners and looking for alternative, flexible ways to support their families."
