The building construction kicked off on March 4, 2018, according to authorities from the Municipality who added that the building has a modern design and will be situated near the Sohar bridge, in the direction of Lulu hypermarket.
An official from Sohar Municipality said to Times of Oman, "The building will take four months to complete. It consists of two lounges, one for men and the other for women."
The lounge will be able to hold nearly 80 people at a time and "each lounge will be equipped with air conditioners and CCTV cameras". The official added, "Additionally, the doors of the lounge and the front portion of the building will be made of glass, to make it easier for passengers to see when their vehicle arrives."
"The aim of the lounge is to ensure the safety and comfortability of travellers. Many people stand under the sun waiting for taxis, this way, they will be protected during summer and from the rain in winter," the official said.
