Georgia attracts more Azerbaijani tourists

Azerbaijani citizens maintain relentlessly to enjoy Georgian culture, cuisine, and nature. Moreover, the close geographical provision makes the country of khvanchkara, suluguni and khachapuri more available than it can be for Azerbaijani tourists.

In February 2018 citizens of Azerbaijan became leaders in terms of a number of the tourists in Georgia, in spite of a decline in 2.2 percent in comparison with the same period of 2017.

The number of the foreign travelers and tourists was increased by 19.8 percent and 27.1 percent, respectively.

'The biggest number of visits was from Azerbaijan (-2.2 percent in a contrast with the previous year), Turkey (+28.1 percent), Russia (+24.2 percent) and Iran (+130.6 percent), said the head of National Tourism Administration Georgiy Chogovadze.

He said that positive tendency maintains in terms of the growth of trips from EU countries. As an example, in February such countries as Great Britain, Lithuania, France, and Germany demonstrated distinctive growth in visiting Georgia.

Overall, Georgia has a pretty climate for receiving tourists. In winter the average temperature is +5°C, and +24°C in the summer. The country has a great number of balneological and spa resorts, alpine skiing spots.

The best time for a trip to Georgia is May-June and September, when there is no heat. The best period to visit the Black sea coast and mountains of the Caucasian country is July-August.

Georgia is a tourism-oriented country, therefore international tourists, including Azerbaijanis visit Georgia not only for the getting information about their culture and cuisine, but also to enjoy numerous architectural historic heritages (castles and churches), to see ancient ruins Vardzia and to attend winery tours.

Azerbaijani tourists prefer to travel to Georgia because of several reasons including low prices for services, as well as close geographic location. The flight takes only 50 minutes and one can drive to Georgia in no more than five hours.

The number of Georgian citizens visiting Azerbaijan is also big. Last year, the country welcomed roughly 500,000 tourists from Georgia.
