A Filipino maid who ran into trouble with Hong Kong Immigration after attempting to move to the city to work for a Kuwaiti diplomat has been sent back to the Philippines after her boss failed to get her a work visa.

Jenelyn Tawon began working in Kuwait City last October, caring for the diplomat's mother. After a month, the family moved to Hong Kong, where their children were studying, and Tawon came with them, reports , a news portal for Filipinos in Hong Kong.

In January, Tawon went to Macau with her employer's family for a vacation. When they returned to Hong Kong, she was stopped by immigration officers, who found that she had exceeded her stay in the city and did not have a work visa.

Once Tawon realized she was working in Hong Kong illegally, she left her job. She said her employer did not say anything regarding getting a work visa in Hong Kong.

On March 2, she contacted the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Hong Kong and told it of her situation. Jalilo dela Torre, head of POLO Hong Kong, sent a staffer to fetch her.

Tawon's employer paid her salary before she left and bought her a plane ticket to Manila. However, he refused to pay for her flight from Manila to her home in General Santos City, on the southern island of Mindanao.

Tawon left Hong Kong on Tuesday evening.
