Egypt, Saudi Arabia vow to uproot extremism, boost Arab security


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, March 6 (KUNA) -- Egyptian President Abdelfatah Al-Sisi and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman have re-emphasized firm determination to continue their relentless drive to uproot extremist and terrorist groups and ideologies from the region.

In a press statement issued Tuesday at the conclusion of Prince Mohammad's three-day visit to Egypt, the two sides expressed full determination to confront the danger of extremism and terrorism and threats against security and peace in the region and around the world.

They called for eradicating terrorism and defeating all terrorist organizations, without exception, entirely and finally.

They undertook to stand up against those who offer financial support, safe shelters, or media platform to terrorist organizations.

In this regard, the Saudi side voiced full support for Egyptian army and security force's ongoing anti-terror operation to rid Sinai Peninsula from the scourge of terrorist groups.

The Saudi side also affirmed its full support to Egypt's rights in Nile water, calling upon all countries to take this into consideration and not jeopardize Egyptian security.

The statement noted that the two sides discussed the key issues related to the latest developments in the Arab region.

They underlined the importance of maintaining Arab national security and territorial integrity and safety of Arab countries.

The two sides agreed on the need to develop and reform the Arab League and pan-Arab organizations to strengthen the Arab capabilities to in face of the growing challenges.

They affirmed that cementing Egyptian-Saudi cooperation represents a fundamental pillar for preserving Arab national security and confronting foreign interferences in the internal affairs of the Arab countries, which led to inciting tensions, conflicts and terrorist activities in Syria, Libya, Yemen and Iraq.

The Egyptian and Saudi leaders affirmed their full support for legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, particularly the right to establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967.

On Syria, they reiterated their call for a political solution to the Syrian crisis to retain the unity of the Syrian territory and achieve the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people.

On Yemen, they stressed the importance of restoring security, stability and preserving unity of Yemen. They expressed support to the Yemeni legitimate government, and the efforts to achieve a peaceful solution to crisis according to the GCC initiative and its executive mechanisms and the outputs of the Yemeni national dialogue.

The Egyptian side condemned Houthis' firing of ballistic missiles towards the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, stressing its full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the face of any threat against its security.

The two sides announced their categorical rejection of the Iranian interferences in the internal affairs of the Arab countries. They argued that the security of the Arab region cannot be achieve without stopping all attempts to intervene in the affairs of the Arab states from any regional party in addition to commitment of all neighboring countries to the principles of good neighborliness.

On Libya, the two countries stated that they back the United Nations-led efforts to resolve the Libyan crisis through political means.

They described that the UN-brokered Libyan political agreement as the best framework for resolving the crisis.

They stressed their support for implementation of all initiative's elements presented by the UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salama, in order to reach a political solution that establishes security, stability and unity of Libyan territory and eradicates all forms of extremism and terrorism in Libya.

In this context, the Saudi side appreciated the efforts exerted by Egypt to host the meetings of the Libyan parties in various parts of Libya, which resulted in a comprehensive vision to resolve the crisis, support Libyan state institutions and combat the threat of terrorism.

The Saudi side also lauded Egypt's efforts to unify the Libyan military institution and enable the national army to carry out its responsibility in maintaining stability and defeating terrorist organizations.

On bilateral ties, the statement noted that the two sides expressed their satisfaction with the high level of cooperation and coordination between the two brotherly countries.

They underscored expand political, security, military, cultural, educational, commercial, investment and tourism cooperation for the best interests of both nations.

They called for seizing the opportunity to enhance the integration between the two countries and solidarity in the face of common challenges. (end) esm.amm.ibi
