Doha:Despite the unjust siege imposed by the neighbouring countries, 1,036 citizens from the blockade nations have benefitted by the services of various centres that operate under Qatar Social Work (QSW).
Maximum beneficiaries are from Egypt followed by Saudi Arabia. Of the total beneficiaries, 205 are citizens of Saudi Arabia, 60 are citizens of the United Arab Emirates, 95 are Bahrainis and 676 are Egyptians. According to the report by QSW, 65 percent of the beneficiaries were Egyptians, 20 percent were Saudis, 9 percent Bahrainis and 6 percent were Emiratis have benefited from the entities working under QSW.
The seven centres that operate under the umbrella of QSW provide a variety of services. Wifaq (Centre for Awareness and Consulting) provided its services to 497 citizens of the blockading countries, Aman Centre (Protection and Rehabilitation) provided its services to 177 citizens, Shafallah (Centre for persons with disability) provided to 64, Nama (Empowerment and Entrepreneurship) to 137 citizens, Ehsan (Elderly Empowerment and care centre) to 30 citizens, Dreama (Empowerment of the Orphans) to five beneficiaries and Best-Buddies Initiative-Qatar (Friendship, Support and Inclusion) provided services to 126 beneficiaries.
Sharing her sentiments on this occasion, Amal Abdullatif Al Mannai, CEO of QSW, told The Peninsula: 'The centres are operating under the umbrella of QSW.
Amal Abdullatif Al Mannai, CEO of QSW added: 'These centres indiscriminately provided their services to all beneficiaries in accordance with professional and occupational criteria as a confirmation of our humanitarian duty on the one hand, and the right of expatriates who reside in Qatar to access all available services on the other. QSW has announced that it has received and served 1,036 beneficiaries from the siege countries since the beginning of the blockade until the end of last August.
'Now we will highlight this report all around the world which we have prepared in three languages — Arabic, English and French. This report conveys the work done by the crisis management team, through highlighting the social services provided by the Foundation and its affiliate centres to citizens of the blockading countries.
Qatar Foundation for Social Work announced in June 2017 (last days of Ramadan) the launch of hotline number 919 for receiving contacts from individuals and families harmed by the blockade, particularly families and individuals who need the services of two QSW centres Aman and Wifaq.
In addition, QSW has established a ‘Crisis Management Team' that consist of specialists and consultants in areas of family care, psychology, social work and legal affairs.
QSW built a database on national organisations and institutions that could be contacted in times of crisis. The blockading countries have taken a stance that violates and contradicts all human rights principles and conventions and constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian laws related to rights of civilians in situations of political or military conflict between states.
In contrast, Qatari civil society organisations continued to provide their services to all those who need them with no discrimination as an expression of their firm belief in ethical and humanitarian values and in the principles of Human Rights Charters, including those of the Arab Human Rights Charter adopted in 2004.
