Total ban on Bangladeshi recruitment in Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY: The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior has issued a decree imposing a total ban on the recruitment of Bangladeshis, reports Al-Jaridah daily. The daily added, the Assistant Undersecretary for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs at the Ministry of Interior, Major-General Sheikh Mazen Al-Jarrah has been informed of the decree.

The source attributed the decision to irregularities and abuses by visa and residence permit traffickers for Bangladeshis whose numbers have increased remarkably following the lifting of the ban on their recruitment in 2014 which was imposed in 2007.

The abuses were mainly related to the employment of domestic helpers in spite of the strict regulations. Some Bangladeshis, the sources said, are recruited to work in the Arabian Gulf states through a complex process that involves private agents and brokers and at times results in recruitment malpractices and deceptions.
