Iran: "Turkey, US are invading Syria"

(MENAFN) Iran's Spiritual Leader Hamaney's High Military Advisor Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi attended the Veteran Revolutionary Guard Commanders Meeting in Iran's Gulistan state and spoke about Afrin assualts.

"Since the incidents started in Syria, the US, the Zionist regime, the EU, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Jordan and Turkey have sought to create crises in the region and harm Syria"s infrastructure and territorial integrity," stressed Safavi.

He added that "The US has directly settled in Syria, against international law. As an important region of the world, Western Asia, became the region where regional and global forces went into a geostrategic rivalry, and Syria one of the areas this rivalry focused on most significantly."

Safavi stated that the US is hoping the Syrian Arab army and the people's units push them out of the East of the Euphrates and maintain the territorial integrity of the country. Safavi said: "In terms of international law, the US and Turkey both invaded Syria and violated the territorial integrity of this country."

In January 2018, Turkey launched an offensive codenamed "Olive Branch" on Syria's Afrin Kurds-majority, on the pretext of protecting its boarders from the People's Protection Units (YPG) which Ankara views as "terrorists."
