Turkey claims "neutralizing" 109 militants in Afrin

(MENAFN) Turkey armed forces claimed it "neutralized" an additional 109 Kurdish and Islamic State (ISIS) fighters in Syria's Afrin region.

The number brings the total since the incursion began on Jan. 20 to 2,777, the military said in a statement on its website on Monday.

Turkey uses the term "neutralized" to refer to enemy fighters who surrendered, were captured or killed in the fighting.

Figures provided by the Turkish military differ markedly from other sources. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Sunday that 295 Kurdish fighters have been killed since the assaults started.

There is not known to be any ISIS presence in Afrin.
