Filipinos in Saudi, Qatar urged to look for jobs elsewhere

(MENAFN- Asia Times) The Philippine government is encouraging Filipinos working in Saudi Arabia or Qatar to look for jobs elsewhere, including in their homeland.

In a published on Sunday, the Department of labor and Employment (DOLE) said it would conduct job fairs and skills profiling for Filipino workers in the two countries.

'The government will entice overseas Filipino workers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Qatar to return home for a chance to get employed locally or elsewhere overseas,' DOLE said.

DOLE has ordered the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration and Bureau of Local Employment to conduct supply-demand profiling and skills-job matching of Filipino workers in the two countries.

The department also said training would be offered for those who may need additional work skills.

It said those requiring such upgrading of skills if required by potential employers "will be referred to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority for training prior to their deployment, whether local or overseas.'

Last month, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said there were around 20,000 job opportunities in the Philippines for people who had lost their jobs in Saudi Arabia or Qatar.
