DOHA: Former Dutch great and the current Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman has backed Qatar in doing 'a good job' of hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Koeman, who visited the Al Gharafa training camp yesterday, said: "We know that 2022 FIFA World Cup will be hosted by Qatar. It is really nice here and that is my first impression. It is my visit to Qatar. I have really enjoyed my time here. Everybody knows they can do a good job to be the host in 2022."

The 54-year-old added in his brief video chat posted on the Al Gharafa Twitter handle: "It's the World Cup. It is always a big achievement for every team to qualify for that tournament. I saw a good training session of Al Gharafa. I say good luck on Monday and good luck for the rest of the championships (QNB Stars League)."

Koeman also met with Al Gharafa coach and the team management headed by club President Sheikh Jassim bin Thamer Al Thani.

The club officials also presented a souvenir to Koeman, a former defender and midfielder with the Dutch international side.

Koeman was one of the stars of the Dutch national side alongside Marco van Basten, Ruud Gullit, Frank Rijkaard and Dennis Bergkamp. During his illustrious career, Koeman won Euro 1988 and played at the 1990 and 1994 FIFA World Cups. He captained the Dutch side at the 1994 World Cup held in the US.
