Several villages of Nangarhar, Laghman purged of rebels


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Some villages in eastern Nangarhar and Laghman provinces have been purged of insurgents during clearing operations, an official said on Saturday.

The offensives were conducted in the Goshta district of Nangarhar and some areas of Mehtarlam, the capital of Laghman, said the 201st Selab Military Corps spokesman.

Lt. Col. Sherin Aqa Faqiri added the Selab-14 operation was conducted in Goshta district to eliminate insurgents.

Eleven villages - the Sheda Gai, Alikhel, Totgai, Sala, Watchtal, Qazaq, Ghondai Kalay, Gato Kalay and Qalagai - had been cleared of militants, the spokesman claimed.

The areas were cleared with the help of a local uprising force in Goshta, he said.

Separately, Selab-23 operation was conducted in instable areas of Mehterlam and Alingar. Militants have not yet spoken about the incidents.
