Peru issues state of emergency over destructive landslide
(MENAFN) Peru has issued a state of emergency in Llusco village after being hit with a landslide that resulted in the destruction of houses, fields and highways.
The state of emergency has followed heavy rain in the village that inflicted it with a tragedy of more than one hundred devastated homes, a clinic and a school.
The Peruvian government has declared the state of emergency to be up for sixty days, while investing an effort to get a hold of assistance.
The source of the landslide was explained by Peru Geophysical Institute's president Hernando Tavera to have been a saturation of water in the earth, as the village is placed underneath a slope in a mountainous area.
