Road accidents kill 45 people in Iran every day

At least 13,874 people were killed in road accidents in Iran in the first 10 months of current Iranian fiscal year (March 21-Jan. 20).

The figure indicates an increase by 0.4 percent compared to the same period of preceding year, Iranian Legal Medicine Organization said.

Some 287,000 people also were injured in the 10-month period due to road accidents, 0.3 percent less year on year.

Road accident fatalities reached 1,077 people in the 10th Iranian calendar month (Dec. 20-Jan. 20).

Also 23,813 people were injured in the same span of time, according to the report.

The number of road accident fatalities has decreased since 2010. About 100,000 people have been killed in road accidents in Iran in the past five years.

According to statistics, 23,249 people were killed in road accidents throughout the country in 2010.

This figure was 20,068 in 2011, 19,089 in 2012, 17,994 in 2013, and 16,872 in 2014.

In 2005, some 27,746 were killed in the road accidents in Iran, which was a record high for the country.
