US official: "free, independent Kurdistan sooner than expected"
(MENAFN) Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz has reaffirmed his support for the Kurds, saying the dream of an independent Kurdish state will come true one day.
"I am strongly supportive of a free and independent Kurdistan," Cruz told the Kurdish reporters from Washington.
"I believe that one day, and perhaps sooner than many people think, we will see a free and independent Kurdistan," the American senator stressed, pledging to continue speaking out in support of the Kurdish aspiration.
"The Kurds have been our friends. They have stood by America in times of need. They've stood by America at a real cost, real sacrifice," BasNews reported.
The US has been a strong ally for Kurds, and that was demonstrated in Turkey's offensive on Afrin that was launched last month where Pentagon has repeatedly warned Turkey against its military offensive.
